Michelino Bisceglia "Works for Trumpet and Orchestra" June 22 2025
When Benny Wiame approached Michelino Bisceglia
with the idea of composing a trumpet concerto, he was
inviting a distinctive musical voice into a realm that was
still unfamiliar to the composer. What Benny didn’t
foresee was the extraordinary artistic journey that would
unfold.
Michelino’s very first work for trumpet and orchestra
resulted in a vivid, three-movement concerto: I.
Allegretto Capriccioso, II. Largo con alcune animato,
and III. Agitato Vivace. But the creative process didn’t
end there. Drawn to the expressive potential of the
trumpet—and inspired by Lanzagallo, a remote and
evocative place in southern Sicily—Michelino continued
writing. The project gradually expanded into a more
intimate and personal musical landscape: an Adagio for
trumpet and string orchestra, an Elegy for trumpet,
harp, and strings, and finally Casa Lanzagallo, a
poignant duet for trumpet and countertenor with string
orchestra.
For Benny Wiame, performing this music has been one
of the most fulfilling experiences of his career.
Michelino captured the soul of the trumpet in a voice all
his own—lyrical, bold, nuanced, and unexpected.
Benny is proud to have been part of bringing this
remarkable music to life and hopes that listeners will
experience the same sense of discovery and emotion
that he felt on stage.
